After taking photos with your digital camera (or scanning pictures with your scanner), you may need to crop and resize the images for your Web Pages. Most Digital Cameras create pictures with a minimum resolution of around 640 by 480 pixels, which is large for a web page and probably too big for viewing via a modem. Most old computers will only display 640 by 480 pixel resolution -- the iMac defaults to 800 by 600.
The following information describes how you can quickly view many pictures using Picture Viewer (free and a part of QuickTime), and how you can use AppleWorks to resize and prepare your photos for Web pages.
Suppose
you have just downloaded a number of photos from your digital camera to a folder
on your Computer. A quick and easy way to view all of these photos is to select
a number of them at once (drag a rectangle selection path or shift click on
the pictures), and then drag them onto your Picture Viewer icon (on your Launcher).
As you view each picture close its Window (Apple-W) to instantly see the next
picture. Write down the number (or names) of the graphics you wish to include
on your web pages. [If you don't have Picture Viewer on your Launcher, open
your Applications Folder, Open your QuickTime Folder. You will find it there
-- drag it onto your Launcher!]
Drag the icon of the picture you wish to edit onto the AppleWorks (ClarisWorks 5) icon on the Launcher. The picture is opened in AppleWorks Paint. Make any necessary adjustments that are relevant in the Paint module. Using the Selection tool (as shown), draw a rectangle indicating the part of the picture you wish to keep.
Copy the part selected (Edit --> Copy or Apple-C).
Go to the Apple Menu and choose the Scrapbook. Paste the image into it (Edit --> Paste or Apple-V). The scrapbook automatically converts the picture to an object so that it will react better in the Draw module.
Now copy the image from the Scrapbook [or Cut (Apple-X) it out of the Scrapbook]. Close the Scrapbook then go back to AppleWorks. Get a new Drawing document by choosing New from the File Menu (or Apple-N).
Paste the image into the Drawing document. You can now resize it by dragging a corner handle (holding the shift key to keep it in proportion!). DO NOT make it larger as it will lose quality.
You can also, easily rotate (Arrange Menu) or add further objects or text to the picture. When satisfied, save the picture as a JPEG file as shown.
Make sure you;
