For some time now the Catholic Education Office has supported schools in the development and delivery of school based Learning Community Projects. These projects are designed to allow schools to engage in school based initiatives in order to improve educational outcomes for students. This has required schools to operate as a professional learning community which:
-
plans for collective reflection and discussion
-
creates structures for school improvement
-
uses research and data on student performance
-
focuses on student learning
-
recognises the professional and pastoral support gained from working collaboratively

In recognition of the success to date of the Learning and Teaching Communities initiative the Catholic Education Office is now inviting schools to make submission for the funding of a learning community project to commence in 2009.
